The different cuvées produced by the Louis Roederer Champagne House are crafted by highlighting the uniqueness of each parcel, allowing the richness of the fruit and the diversity of the terroirs to be fully expressed. Year after year, the House Cellar Master, Jean-Baptiste Lécaillon, preserves the unique style that characterises the House. The identity of Louis Roederer is built around two essential values: respect for the terroir and the quest for elegance. Louis Roederer is dedicated to producing champagnes that faithfully reflect the authenticity of their terroir of origin, highlighting the influence of the soils and the specific climates of each region. Although Pinot Noir undoubtedly imparts its character and structure to Louis Roederer champagnes, the house favours Chardonnay for its finesse, freshness and aromatic concentration.
Patience and creativity are the watchwords of this fabulous champagne house... The house's different wines (Rosé Vintage, Cristal, Nature Starck...) are unique and grandiose bottles, a symbol of quality, elegance and, above all, celebration!

THE HISTORY
In 1833, Louis Roederer, heir to the Champagne House, distinguished himself as an aesthete and entrepreneur with his visionary decision to enrich his vineyards. He decided to master every stage of the wine-making process, creating a unique style, spirit and taste. In the mid-nineteenth century, he defied the conventions of his time by instinctively and eclectically acquiring vines on the land of the great Champagne crus.
While others were buying grapes, Louis Roederer was preserving the vineyards, analysing the character of each plot and methodically acquiring the best. Convinced that a great wine has its roots in the soil, guided by a love of tradition and a passion for the future, Louis Roederer set an exceptional destiny for the House that would henceforth bear his name. His successor, Louis Roederer II, shares the same patient vision of champagne, the same heritage of the estate and the same instinctive boldness.
He also drew inspiration from his passion for books and drawings, which he collected with talent. By the 1870s, Louis Roederer champagne wines had crossed the Atlantic to the United States and travelled as far as Russia to grace the table of Tsar Alexander II. As a man of refinement and a tireless researcher, Louis Roederer II created an exclusive new champagne for the Tsar and introduced a major innovation: the very first "prestige cuvée", named "Cristal" in 1876.
In the 1920s, Léon Olry Roederer, the new heir to the House of Louis Roederer, committed himself to making a perfectly balanced wine, a constant and delicate harmony of several vintages, guaranteeing impeccable quality at all times. In this way, he is laying the foundations for the future Brut Premier, a remarkable blend that is playing a key role in the renaissance of the House of Louis Roederer.
Currently headed by Frédéric Rouzaud, son of the founder, Louis Roederer sees him as the seventh generation of this lineage. With a similar patience and unwavering loyalty to its creative vocation, the House ships three million bottles a year around the world..
LOUIS ROEDERER, LA PROPRIÉTÉ
Maison Louis Roederer draws its power from its exceptional 240 hectares vineyard, made up entirely of Grands Crus and Premiers Crus. Spread over more than 400 plots in the Côte des Blancs, Montagne de Reims and Vallée de la Marne, these lands form an authentic mosaic of terroirs capturing all the essence of Champagne's most prestigious soils.
The Champagne region is unique in that its climate is oceanic with continental tendencies. The magnificent hillsides are home to these prestigious Champagne terroirs, where the vines thrive on shallow limestone soils. This favours gradual ripening of the grapes, preserving the freshness, aromatic purity and minerality that define the style of Louis Roederer champagnes.
The three traditional grape varieties coexist on the Louis Roederer estate. Chardonnay, praised for its minerality, finesse and elegance. Pinot Noir, with its robust constitution, structures the blends and prepares them perfectly for ageing. Pinot Meunier, a soft and more discreet grape variety, with its ability to adapt, contributes to the harmony and suppleness of certain cuvées.
In 2013, Louis Roederer's vineyards covered an area of 240 hectares, divided into 410 parcels.

All Louis Roederer vintages come exclusively from its own vineyards, a unique feature in Champagne. The quest for diversity in terroirs, crus, plots and grape varieties, true Climats in the Burgundian sense, became a matter of course for Louis Roederer, and the specific acquisition of sites selected for their ability to produce different types of wine became the norm. Today, this policy remains an essential condition for the development of the House.

FROM THE VINE TO THE CELLAR
The grapes from our plots are hand-picked with the greatest care, then collected in baskets and pressed at the place of harvest. Pressing is a very delicate operation, as the colour of the grapes must not taint the juice, which must retain its blond, clear colour.
Precise selection and so-called "parcel-by-parcel" vinification ensure respect for the origin and traceability of the grapes, as well as perfect knowledge of the fruit from virtually every row of vines. They also offer the chance to preserve the natural balance of each plot. In this way, the vines are protected from any influence: each of our wines naturally gives the best of itself.
WINEMAKING
Louis Roederer wines are patiently crafted through masterful winemaking, with the utmost respect for the raw material and a constant quest for balance and fruit brilliance.
The juices are pressed at the place of harvest and then vinified separately.
With over 450 vats, the expression of each parcel is perfectly preserved and the evolution of its personality rigorously followed. A hallmark of Louis Roederer champagnes, some of the juices are matured in tuns on their lees, developing a rare texture and sweetness.
The quintessence of the art of champagne, blending is at the heart of the production of these exceptional cuvées. Achieving a consistent style, even though vintage after vintage, the harvests vary in terms of quantity and quality. The diversity of the House's reserve wines makes it possible to create this extraordinary range of aromas, the result of the talent and intuition of the Louis Roederer teams, expressing the nuances of each terroir with purity and refinement.

THE GREAT CHAMPAGNE
Louis Roederer's Cuvée Cristal, the House's most famous wine, is packaged in a flat-bottomed crystal bottle, named after the precious material that enhances its transparency and luminosity. Distinguished by its exceptional balance, Cristal is a refined champagne with an unrivalled length on the palate. It is a wine for laying down, capable of ageing for more than twenty years without losing its freshness and character.
Louis Roederer's Cuvées Collection represents a new approach, born of the desire to improve the quality of multi-millilitre blends. Produced from a third of the vineyards of "La Rivière", "La Montagne" and "La Côte", the Collection de la Maison Louis Roederer is made from a base vintage, reserve wine matured in oak, and wine from the "perpetual reserve", initiated according to the principles of solera in 2012.
Cuvée Louis Roederer Vintage aims to capture the finest expression of Pinot Noir from our 'La Montagne' vineyard, centred around the first vines acquired by the House. It bears witness to an exceptional vintage, capturing the image of a terroir shaped by slow maturation over the years.
Made mainly from Pinot Noir, sometimes with Chardonnay, Cuvée Vintage is aged for an average of 4 years on its lees. It also benefits from a rest period of at least 6 months after disgorgement, helping to refine its maturity.
Its identity takes shape thanks to the power and maturity of the Pinot Noir, revealing aromas of intense fruit, juicy pear, concentrated, almost candied citrus fruit, and tangy red fruit.
