copy of Penfolds Grange 2019
South Australia - Red Wine -Grange is undoubtedly Australia's greatest red wine, made from 97% Syrah and 3% Cabernet Sauvignon, and is produced by the famous Penfolds estate.
This 2020 vintage impressed us with its power and elegance, it is also rated 98/100 by Jane Anson.
The colour is a deep red
The nose reveals notes of black fruits (blackberries, blackcurrants) mixed with spices (fennel and aniseed), hints of dark chocolate, cocoa powder
The palate expresses rich tannins, lovely acidity, notes of oak and fruit that intermingle. The finish is long and persistent
It is arguably Australia's most famous wine and is officially listed as a South Australian heritage wine. Made from ripe, intensely flavoured and structured Syrah grapes, the result is a unique Australian style that is now recognized as one of the most consistent among the world's great wines. With an unbroken line of vintages since the experimental 1951, Grange clearly demonstrates the synergy between Syrah and the soils and climates of South Australia.
The advice of 12bouteilles: To be served around 16°C-18°C, this magnificent Syrah will perfectly accompany a tasty red meat, a rack of lamb with parsley or a beautiful rib of beef. It can be enjoyed by 2028 or kept until 2068.
The development of Max Schubert’s Grange is a modern tale of imagination, a battle against the odds and redemption. It began with a side trip to Bordeaux in 1949, where a wine ‘capable of staying alive for a minimum of twenty years’, first entered Schubert’s mind. His first experimental vintage in 1951 began a new way of thinking that would eventually lead to a signature wine style, but not before Grange was discredited and Max Schubert forced to make the wine in secrecy.
