Pym-Rea 2019
California - Napa Valley - Red Wine -Pym-Rea was the property of Robin Williams, bought by Tesseron Family from Château Pontet Canet in 2016 with the goal of creating an exceptional wine in the heart of Napa Valley.
The 2019 grape varieties are made up of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Merlot. In the pure style of the great Bordeaux wines, Pym-Ray 2019 benefits from long aging in French oak barrels (55% new barrels) and 45% concrete vats. Aging lasted 18 months.
The management of the Property is 100% Biodynamic and certified by Demeter USA.
Tasting Note:
Color: deep red with garnet reflections
The nose: intense aromas of black plum, blueberry, blackcurrant, and dried petals, accentuated by mineral nuances.
The palate: a creamy texture reveals a gentle acidity and fine tannins. There is a subtle tension among flavors of dark fruits, fresh herbs, espresso, and cocoa. A delicate dark chocolate bitterness lingers on the finish.
Update on the 2019 vintage:
2019 is a vintage of balance, energy and tension. The start of the year is marked by abundant rains which help maintain humidity in the clay soils until bud break. What followed was a long, hot summer, punctuated by foggy mornings, without any significant heat waves, and ending with a mild end to the season.
The advice of 12Bouteilles: Pym-Rea 2019 will sublimate a piece of red meat, a game or a cheese platter. Remember to open the wine a few hours before tasting and serve around 16°C to 18°C.
