California - Napa Valley - Red Wine -Pym-Rea was the property of Robin Williams, bought by Tesseron Family from Château Pontet Canet in 2016 with the goal of creating an exceptional wine in the heart of Napa Valley.
The blend for the 2020 vintage is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Cabernet Franc and 15% Merlot. In the pure style of the great Bordeaux wines,
Pym-Ray 2020 benefits from a long ageing period of between 16 and 18 months in French oak barrels (40% new barrels, 10% one-wine barrels and 50% in concrete vats).
The estate is 100% biodynamic and certified by Demeter USA.
Tasting notes of the 2020 viantage
Colour: deep red with garnet highlights
Nose: intense aromas of black plum, blueberry, blackcurrant and dried petals, accented by mineral nuances.
Palate: a creamy texture reveals gentle acidity and fine tannins. There is a subtle tension between flavours of dark fruit, fresh herbs, espresso and cocoa. A delicate dark chocolate bitterness lingers on the finish.
The estate's view of the 2020 vintage
We will remember the 2020 vintage as one marked by unusual factors. After an abnormally warm and dry winter, our vineyards experienced neither significant rain nor cold weather until the end of March. A finally mild spring gave us an excellent early start, followed by cool mornings and very hot summer days.
That summer was particularly hot and dry, marked by major fires in the region. Fortunately, our vineyard, which benefits from excellent ventilation thanks to its high altitude, was spared and produced grapes of exceptional quality.
The advice of 12Bouteilles: Pym-Rea 2019 will sublimate a piece of red meat, a game or a cheese platter. Remember to open the wine a few hours before tasting and serve around 16°C to 18°C.
